5 Tips to Exercise at Home
With many of us in lockdown, you may be wondering how to maintain your fitness levels or looking for the best at home workout to get in shape.
We have good news. You don’t need to venture outside to get fit. In fact, you can complete a really good full body workout in the comfort of your own home, just by using your body weight!
Granted, it is a bit different from lifting heavy weights or utilising all the equipment that a gym has to offer. But we have to work with what we’ve got. And if you’re trying to keep your fitness up, or just starting training, home bodyweight workouts are a great option.
Here are five tips to keep in mind when doing a full body workout at home:
- Do your workout in a circuit style
Circuit training is where you perform one movement after another to help get your heart rate up, increase muscle burn, be time-efficient, and keep you interested. Otherwise, you might get bored just doing a couple of different exercises.
- Perform compound exercises
Compound exercises utilise multiple muscle groups at the same time. These exercises will recruit lots of muscle fibres and get your whole body working, burn the extra calories, and work up a sweat! A good bodyweight workout should only be about 15-20mins if done properly.
- Wear your workout clothes!
It can be tempting to not take the workout seriously because you’re at home. Wearing the gear that you would normally take to the gym will help your mind get into the state where you feel like you’re ready to give the workout a good crack!
- Put on your favourite music!
Music is highly motivating, so create a playlist that will get you up and ready to move! Headphones are a good way to help tune out the distractions around the house that might take your attention away from the workout.
- Limit distractions
If possible, find a space in the house where you will not be bothered easily. Treat your workout time like a business call where you would want to limit the distractions as much as possible. Maybe try working out in the garage instead of the lounge room where everyone is hanging out. But if you’re really committed, you can do it anywhere!
Finally, here is an example of a really simple, effective home workout routine that anyone can use.
